Radiant Orchid - How to Wear the Colour of the Year

Every year colour experts, Pantone, announce an official colour of the year. The decision is made through a variety of measures by a worldwide team of representatives from colour standards groups, and can depend on all sorts of influences such as trends, economy and the overall zeitgeist of the time. For example when the colour Honeysuckle was declared as the colour of 2011 it was stated as so because; "In times of stress, we need something to lift our spirits. Honeysuckle is a captivating, stimulating color that gets the adrenaline going – perfect to ward off the blues.". The colour is decided upon almost a year in advance and then distributed throughout so you can often expect a peak of the colours use in floral, fashion and consumer trends. 2014's shade has been declared as Radiant Orchid, a sweet and punchy light purple hue. We're pretty sure this colour will be whinging its way onto the high street and into your wardrobes before long so we thought we'd put together some ideas on how to wear the colour of the year. street style inspiration of colour purpleAs you can see from the above inspiration, there is plenty of ways to introduce this colour into your wardrobe from girly skirts to statement coats and shoes. But of course as per usual we are most excited about the accessories (well c'mon it is the best way to inject colour into your outfits no?) This purple colour works perfectly in the shape of a statement necklace against a crisp white shirt and looks great tied into hair of all shades. It may just be one of the easiest colours of the year to pull off. Radiant OrchidHere's our top picks... 1. Double heart hairclip 2. Miss Anna star crystal hair clip 3. Crystal acrylic earrings 4. Beetlejuice Acrylic necklace 5. Purple Haze Luxe necklace 6. Purple emperor rose earrings 7. Miss Anna strawberry hairband 8. Miss Anna crystal bow hairslide 9. Trend: Heavy Metals

You may be a bigger fan of Kylie than Kiss when it comes to metal of the music variety, but there is no reason why you can't be a full on heavy metal fan in jewellery terms. Heavy metals are big news this season which means abandoning that usual mantra of less is more. In this game, the thicker, heavier and shinier, the better. Heavy Metal Jewellery inspiration pics So how to tackle the trend? Well contrary to what you may be thinking, you don't need to overhaul your style and start wearing lashes of black eyeliner and shaping your hair into spikes. Despite the connotations, the trend for heavy jewellery doesn't necessarily come with that of heavy grungy fashion. In fact, so far in the style stakes, it's been quite the opposite and we've seen models and celebs alike donning thick metal jewels with either glam sophisticated evening wear or casual weekend wear. Simple items work best such as all black or all white ensembles teamed with one shade of heavy metal bling, or denim and separates accentuated with a lashing of hammered and textured jewels. Pieces to look out for with this trend include chunky choker style necklaces or thick chains, simple stacking rings in various metal shades and hammered metal bracelets and arm bands. Here's five of the best from the ALOL collection... Anna Lou of London heavy metal jewellery items1. Gold hammered ID bracelet 2. Couture Luxe Necklace 3. White frost Studded bangle 4. Darkness chain bracelet 5. Monogram signet ring What do you think of the heavy metal trend?

How the Bloggers Wear It... Winter Brights!

We loved how fashion blogger Lucy from Shiny Thoughts styled our hot pink studded wrap bracelet in this colourful outfit post so much we've decided to create a whole post around it! As seen on Shiny Thoughts Image from Shiny Thoughts As a self confessed lover of all things colourful and shiny (hence the blog name) Lucy doesn't play by the rules when it comes to fashion and will often be seen sporting bright colours  and bare legs (so brave!) in the winter months. What we loved about this Winter brights outfit particularly was the fun and energy it exuded, and all simply by adding a touch of colour to your winter wear. Even if your not quite ready to put the black opaques away (brr!) and are still bundling up in your winter coat every day, adding punchy primary's and zesty neon's through your accessories is an easy way to make sure your outfit stays on the bright side of the colour spectrum and doesn't edge into the dull. colour_crush With Lucy's fearless approach to colour as our inspiration, we've put together a colour wheel of ideas to get you started... 1. Green - The Checkerboard bangle (see all green items here) 2. Yellow - the Shooting Star bangle (see all yellow items here) 3. Orange - the Love at First Sight Earrings (see all orange items here) 4. Red - the Juicy lips necklace (see all red items here) 5. Pink - The Bonito chain bracelet (see all pink items here) 6. Purple - The Purple Rose earrings (see all purple items here) 7. Blue - The Mesmerise Silk Scarf (see all blue items here) 8. Turquoise - The Jade bracelet (see all turquoise items here) What do you think of bright colours for Winter? Will you be rocking the trend? Everyone's Wearing... Ear Cuffs!

The trend for ear cuffs has come and gone over the last year without really making too much of a splash. After last year's Punk inspired Met Ball where Sienna Miller and Cara Delevigne were both seen adorning ear jewels of the edgy and spiky variety, there were ripples to suggest that this might be a trend about to blow up. But alas, apart from within the true punk scene, so far the ear cuff hasn't really taken off in mainstream fashion. Celebrities wearing ear ciffs Sienna Miller, Nicole Richie and Cara Delvigne at the Met Ball 2013. Image sources here. But after seeing a few of the, shall we say, less risque celebrities donning some upper ear bling on the red carpet lately, we are here to ask; Could 2014 be the year of the ear cuff? This year's revival already seems a little different however. Instead of being an accessory to toughen up your leather jacket and give off a 'don't mess with me' vibe, the ear cuff now seems to be taking a much more sophisticated route, being worn alongside chic up-do's, evening gowns and flawless make up. Celebrity Ear Cuff trend From L-R: Emma Watson, Miranda Kerr, Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Alba, Lara Bingle and Sarah Hyland. Images sources here. First spotted on our favourite quintessential English rose, Emma Watson, who is normally known for her demure red carpet style, her cuff of choice was adorned with tiny swarovski crystals proving this accessory needn't be pigeon holed. This statement was followed swiftly by Miranda Kerr, who donned her cute as a button cuff with an oh so casual outfit, Jennifer Lawrence who wore a beautiful sparkling number at The Hunger Games Catching Fire premiere, Jessica Alba who chose a sophisticated snaking number and most recently with Modern Family actress Sarah Hyland choosing to compliment her chic up-do with a blingtastic cuff at The Grammy's this week. Yup, you heard it here first. It looks like the ear cuff is re-appearing in a much more glamourous form, and this time it might just be here to stay. Trend: The January Blues...

Have you been feeling blue this January? Well, fear not as we are here to tell you that it's ok. In fact better than ok, your bang on trend! Yes blue hues are the hottest (or maybe we should say coolest) shade on the fashion colour wheel this season, so it's time to turn your January blues into a style statement! Blue Fashion TrendIf you think about it, most of us wear blue on a regular basis through denim, so adding some more obviously indigo tones into our outfits is the perfect way to accessorise those casual every day fail safes. Head to toe blue can be tricky to pull off for most of us (we know double denim is in these days but c'mon it's not for everyone) so our favourite way to wear this trend is through bright accents. Whether you prefer dark royal shades or piercing azures is really up to you, both go remarkably well with a pair of jeans and a navy striped breton tee. Alternatively, if you work in an environment where denim is a no-go, bright shoes, scarves or jewellery accents can be a great way to jazz up your otherwise corporate work outfit. Blue Jewellery TrendAbove are some of the street style images that are inspiring us right now and below we've rounded up our favourite blue jewels from the Anna Lou of London collection, so that your path to mastering this trend is only a click away! 1. Admiral Chain bracelet 2. Blueberry leather bracelet 3. Sapphire Earrings 4. Cliffs of Dover Scarf 5. Blue Insignia Necklace (now only £7.50!!) What do you think of the blue trend? Guest Post: Rose Gold Jewellery by La Fashion Folie

We're back with our first guest post of 2014 and this week we hear from the lovely Sophie, who blogs about fashion, jewellery and all things stylish at La Fashion Folie, as she talks about the latest trend for rose gold jewellery. A Rosy Outlook ‘Say it with roses’ so goes the iconic Cadbury’s slogan, a saying that can also be applied to the key trend for 2014: rose gold jewellery. The taste for this metal has slowly been gathering momentum over the past couple of years and this fashion season it is set to go stratospheric. Personally I am a huge fan, rose gold is now my go-to alloy, with yellow looking brash and white paling into insignificance in comparison.  I now wear the warm hued metal on a near-daily basis with my Anna Lou of London initial necklace becoming a firm favourite in my jewellery wardrobe. The appetite for rose gold  looks set to become more than a seasonal fad too; in my day job I work in the fine jewellery industry and over the past year we have seen an increasing number of clients opting for rose gold engagement rings and eternity bands. I can see why - a pink sapphire gemstone glows when it is set in a rose gold reflecting the warm tones of the metal – an incredible option for an engagement ring! Another cool way to wear rose coloured jewellery is to mix your metals; rose, yellow and white gold enhance one another’s precious appeal when styled together. Try investing in a piece that combines all three alloys in one – Anna Lou of London can tailor bespoke pieces in a mixture of metals upon request. Rose Gold Jewellery by La Fashion FolieTo get you started I’ve put together my edit of my favourite rose gold Anna Lou of London pieces below – all of which would look chic worn alone or layered up together. 1. The Dream Tag Necklace 2. The Initial Sideways Necklace 3. The engraved Heart bracelet 4. The Love Necklace (perfect for Valentines, keep an eye on my blog for a little giveaway soon) 5. Happy Disc Necklace Will you be wearing rose gold this year? This post was written by Sophie Greene of the fashion blog, La Fashion Folie.

The Top Trends from The Golden Globes 2014

We love a good red carpet event here at ALOL and this years Golden Globes was a feast for the eyes as the celebrities hit the carpet in all sorts of beautiful gowns, statement accessories and to die for jewellery. Here we've rounded up some of our favourite trends from the night and do let us know what you loved too. Top Trends from the Golden Globes 2014... 1. Red Red at Golden Globes 2014 Red was the colour of the night with a whole host of celebrities ditching the usual black or metallic gowns for show stopping scarlet numbers, without even a hint of carpet clashing worry. Our favourite outfit of the night had to go to Emma Watson who pulled off this Dior backless dress and trouser combo to perfection, but we also loved Amy Adams plunging neckline and Nupita Nyoung's Caped Ralph Lauren showcase. 2. Turquoise jewels Turquoise jewels at Golden Globes 2014 A theme for the night was all black ensembles teamed with bright blue and turquoise jewellery. Obviously we approve of any stand out jewellery on the red carpet and we thought both Emma Roberts and Sofia Verbara pulled it off to perfection. Which do you prefer? Get the look with our top turquoise pieces. 3. Monochrome Golden Globes 2014 Fashion Clean lines and monochrome colourways were top of the bill for many of the stars, and Tom Ford could be thanked for most of these styles. Our favourite monochrome looks were Hayden Panitierre and Girls star Allison Williams in Alexander McQueen. Get the monochrome look here. 4. Emerald Green Emerald Green at Golden Globes 2014 On the jewellery side, many of our stars opted for emerald green gems. Jennifer Lawrence, Mila Kunis and Helen Mirren were all spotted in beautiful emerald earrings, while Olivia Wilde went head to toe in the colour with a slinky Gucci gown. We were green with envy at it all. Shop emerald pieces here. 5. Slicked back Hair Hair Trends Golden Globes 2014 The top hair trend of the evening seemed to be of the slick variety. From Hayden Pannittiere and Jessica Chastain in backwards bouffants, and Kelly Osbourne and Drew Barrymore slicking it sideways. We're still not convinced on this hair trend, what do you think? Who were your best dressed at the Golden Globes? We'd love to hear your thoughts, Tweet us @annalouoflondon or leave us a comment on Facebook.
