Chanel’s Pearls and Cycling Caps in Paris

Karl Lagerfeld, creative director of the Parisian fashion house Coco Chanel, knows how to cause a stir when he puts on a show. At the beginning of the year the daring German designer brought together haute couture and street fashion when he transformed Paris’s Royal Palais into a supermarket and had his models – supposedly symbolizing the average woman on the street - wearing trainers and sauntering down the shopping aisles. Recently Lagerfeld has gone further by seemingly taking inspiration from the Tour de France and draping his show in cycling inspired attire and accoutrements. His models slinked down the catwalk – displaying, as per usual, the classic sultry French pout and classic je ne sais quoi of the French stereotype – wearing cycling caps studded with crystal and shorts laced in pearls. Indeed pearls were almost as much of a motif in the Chanel show as la vélo. Almost all the models were peppered in pearls to some extent, whether they were dangling around their necks, hanging from their ears, or embedded in brooches and can-grooved cuffs. Pearls in Vogue Far from being merely the accessory of choice for grannies and the Sloane Square set, pearls are undoubtedly back in vogue this season. There have been other shows such as that of Simone Rocha’s new collection that have been as equally decked as Lagerfeld’s with the shimmering stones. These pearls came in all shapes and sizes, decorating collars and sequenced into garments and handbags. Rocha – who has been known in the past to take inspiration from both her Chinese and Irish grandmothers – also implanted the little rocks into knee-high stocking and had them carving out slashes across her drop-wasted skirts. Want the look? You can get a pearl bracelet with gold initial letter from Anna Lou of London or real pearl earrings and necklaces from Mesenso. Pair Your Pearls Perfectly It cannot be emphasized enough that your accessories should match your style, and of course the right style for the right occasion. Pearls are a soft, delicate stone that can be paired with spring pastels as well as an elegant black dinner dress in the wintertime. The accessories for the right debut - who better to epitomise this than Adele? She inspired this post we published earlier about accessory style for plus size women. Whether it’s a large, bold statement or many smaller bracelets in a jumble on one wrist, the effect is still a powerful assertion of class, style and power that every fashion diva wants to make.

Trend: Spring Pastels

After the stormy weather last week, it's been great to see the first glimmer of sunshine this week wouldn't you agree? Spring has almost Sprung and therefore springlike trends are at the forefront of our minds. While it began last season with the ubiquitous pink coat, it seems that the spring pastels trend is sticking around for a while yet and the pink coat has been joined by it's friendly counterparts; the icy blue and creamy white coats. Over at LFW last weekend we certainly saw an abundance of pastel loving on the Somerset House cobbles and everyone we spoke to said that wearing those ice cream hues definitely put a Spring in their step after the long Winter. This trend is one that's set to get even bigger and better as the months go on and the weather warms up, and the great thing is that there is a shade for everyone and plenty of ways to wear it. So whether you are a fan of the peachy pinks, the minty greens or the baby blues, go pastel with your fashions this S/S and we promise you won't regret it. Take a look at our top pastel picks below... 5 top spring jewellery items from Anna Lou of London1. Heart acrylic studs 2. Blueberry Doilies Necklace 3. Bella studded bangle 4. Lilac bow bracelet 5. Aphrodite Luxe Necklace What do you think of the Pastel trend? Will you be wearing a pastel coloured coat?

How the Bloggers Wear it... LFW AW14

If you follow us on Twitter or Instagram, you may have seen that the last few days we've been  Somerset House bound for the bi-annual style-fest that is London Fashion Week. As we've been working with some super stylish bloggers of late we were keen to see how they worked our accessories for the cobbled streets and we definitely weren't disappointed! If it was up to the weather I think it would have had us all at home in our PJ's, but us Brits have never let the weather dampen our fashion spirit and bright colours, bare legs and sans coat were just some of the brave trends we spotted. Here's just a few of our fave fashion bloggers spotted accessorising their stylish LFW AW14 outfits with Anna Lou of London accessories. Shop the looks below. NYFW AW14 Street Style Trends

Fashion month is under way and while we are excited about everyone descending on the cobbled streets of Somerset House for London Fashion Week in a few days, the style on the streets of New York has been pretty captivating this season. With the recent snow storms and sub zero temperatures that the city has been experiencing, the fashionable have had to rethink their usual stylish combos and seek out clothes that can both wow the photographers and keep them from hypothermia. Because of this the NYFW AW14 street style trends have given way to some exciting new fashion movements. As we've been keeping a beady eye on the trends as they happen (AW14 catwalk trends to come in a seperate post) we've done the scouring and collating for you and put together the top five styles to try this season as seen on some of our favourite bloggers, journalists and celebs. Street Style from NYFW1. Monochrome It may seem an obvious choice for fashion week (you can't go wrong with all black right?) but not such an obvious choice for Spring. Yet every combo of monochrome possible has been spotted over the last week from prints to geometry to leather to stripes. Luckily this is one trend that's relatively easy to do year round so pick up some key monochrome pieces to add to your wardrobe now. Street Style from NYFW2. Pastels We've mentioned it already over on Facebook and Twitter but pastels are big news for this Spring, maybe even more so than last. The ubiquitous pink coat still seems to be going strong, but shades of ice blue and creamy whites are to be added. For top fashion brownie points this season however, it seems you need to team a pastel ensemble with a bright fluoro accessory. Pastel meets neon, we like? Grab some pastel pieces here. Street Style from NYFW3. Bright Accessories So we hate to brag but didn't we call this one just last week? Yup we predicted an outbreak of winter bright accessories and we were right! bright pink and blue bags were spotted everywhere and a micro trend of bright printed scarves around the head warned off the cold. You can shop printed scarves here and see our range of neon accessories here. Street Style from NYFW4. Fur The cold weather may have had a big part to play in this one but everyone who's anyone was sported a teddy bear fur coat this NYFW season and leading on from the above trend, the brighter the better. As well as coats all other fur accessories are game too from hand muffs to bag accessories and Russian style hats. Street Style from NYFW5. Prints The number one print this season had to be the tartan check, closely followed by stripes and geometric florals. Bright colours once again reigned but adding printed pieces to an outfit was the best way to layer up in the cold weather. Those were our top five trends from NYFW Aw14, we'd love to hear from you if you spotted any others? We'll be back with a post on the jewellery trends from fashion week soon but as always in the meantime tweet us @annalouoflondon or chat to us on Facebook.

How the Bloggers Wear It... Winter Brights!

We loved how fashion blogger Lucy from Shiny Thoughts styled our hot pink studded wrap bracelet in this colourful outfit post so much we've decided to create a whole post around it! As seen on Shiny Thoughts Image from Shiny Thoughts As a self confessed lover of all things colourful and shiny (hence the blog name) Lucy doesn't play by the rules when it comes to fashion and will often be seen sporting bright colours  and bare legs (so brave!) in the winter months. What we loved about this Winter brights outfit particularly was the fun and energy it exuded, and all simply by adding a touch of colour to your winter wear. Even if your not quite ready to put the black opaques away (brr!) and are still bundling up in your winter coat every day, adding punchy primary's and zesty neon's through your accessories is an easy way to make sure your outfit stays on the bright side of the colour spectrum and doesn't edge into the dull. colour_crush With Lucy's fearless approach to colour as our inspiration, we've put together a colour wheel of ideas to get you started... 1. Green - The Checkerboard bangle (see all green items here) 2. Yellow - the Shooting Star bangle (see all yellow items here) 3. Orange - the Love at First Sight Earrings (see all orange items here) 4. Red - the Juicy lips necklace (see all red items here) 5. Pink - The Bonito chain bracelet (see all pink items here) 6. Purple - The Purple Rose earrings (see all purple items here) 7. Blue - The Mesmerise Silk Scarf (see all blue items here) 8. Turquoise - The Jade bracelet (see all turquoise items here) What do you think of bright colours for Winter? Will you be rocking the trend?
