STREET STYLE: London Fashion Week

If you follow us on Twitter, you'll know that the Anna Lou team took to the infamous cobbles of Somerset House yesterday in a mission to bring you our updates from the front line of the last day of London Fashion Week. This four-day feast of all things fashionable and fabulous has become as much about street style as it is shows, with groups of super chic bloggers and stylish Brits flocking towards the venue to debut amazing outfits for the awaiting press and camera crews. So with our cameras poised and eyes wide, Team Anna Lou set out to hunt down as much amazing jewellery as possible - in order to bring our readers the latest trends straight from the front line. Aren't you lucky? Without further ado...

The icy February chill meant everyone was wrapped up as snugly as possible in coats and scarves, which in turn made it harder than ever to scope out eye-catching jewellery - until we started ring hunting! Statement, stacked up rings adorned the fingers of every fashionista lining the cobbles; there was hardly a hand in sight without some sort of sparkle on it. Get the look by stacking up some personalised Anna Lou rings alongside classic designs for a special take on this trend.

Initial Heart Ring - £40

Much like rings, statement necklaces were the easiest way to add jewellery swag to cosy coats and jumpers. Layering chunky necklaces over turtle neck jumpers upgrades a whole outfit in ten seconds or less - just opt for colour and sparkle and remember: the bigger, the better!

Lady necklace - £25

For classic girls, fear not - as simple and stylish jewellery looks set to stick around. Strings of pearls and sparkling stones are completely timeless, and can give an outfit some understated glamour. Or nab your very own personalised piece to give a touch of personality to your look.

Initial Necklace - £67.50

Pearl Initial Bracelet - £18

And of course we were delighted to see patriotic fashion continuing its reign on the streets of London! Ooze Brit pride with punchy Union Jack accessories and royal colours. One look that will never go out of fashion!

Union Jack stud earrings - £20

And if all of that is still leaving you overwhelmed as far as fashion goes, make like this clever chap and cover it all up with something really statement - and comfy too. We'll see you next year, LFW!

How the Bloggers Wear It... Winter Brights!

We loved how fashion blogger Lucy from Shiny Thoughts styled our hot pink studded wrap bracelet in this colourful outfit post so much we've decided to create a whole post around it! As seen on Shiny Thoughts Image from Shiny Thoughts As a self confessed lover of all things colourful and shiny (hence the blog name) Lucy doesn't play by the rules when it comes to fashion and will often be seen sporting bright colours  and bare legs (so brave!) in the winter months. What we loved about this Winter brights outfit particularly was the fun and energy it exuded, and all simply by adding a touch of colour to your winter wear. Even if your not quite ready to put the black opaques away (brr!) and are still bundling up in your winter coat every day, adding punchy primary's and zesty neon's through your accessories is an easy way to make sure your outfit stays on the bright side of the colour spectrum and doesn't edge into the dull. colour_crush With Lucy's fearless approach to colour as our inspiration, we've put together a colour wheel of ideas to get you started... 1. Green - The Checkerboard bangle (see all green items here) 2. Yellow - the Shooting Star bangle (see all yellow items here) 3. Orange - the Love at First Sight Earrings (see all orange items here) 4. Red - the Juicy lips necklace (see all red items here) 5. Pink - The Bonito chain bracelet (see all pink items here) 6. Purple - The Purple Rose earrings (see all purple items here) 7. Blue - The Mesmerise Silk Scarf (see all blue items here) 8. Turquoise - The Jade bracelet (see all turquoise items here) What do you think of bright colours for Winter? Will you be rocking the trend? Anna's Guide to Layering Necklaces...

Why wear one when you can wear three? The trend for layering necklaces is hotter than ever right now but getting the balance right can be tricky. Too few and it doesn't work, too many and your overloaded, too close together and you lose the effect, too far apart and there's no coherent theme. Here, founder and designer, Anna gives her top tips on the art of layering and suggests which type of necklaces are most appropriate for the trend... 1. Choose your Theme - the most important part is to first of all decide which type of layered look your are trying to portray. Do you want something grungy and punk inspired (lots of larger gunmetal chains, tough spikes and overlapping styles) or are you looking for more of an understated femininity (dainty chains and simple charms)? Once you have a theme, picking the necklaces to wear will be much easier. 2. Decide on the Amount of Layers - similar to the above tip, the amount of layers you are hoping to achieve is important. I would say the minimum you need to create a layered look is three and it helps if these are all of varying lengths, however if you do want a heavier look you can add many more! 3. Start Small - I always think it's best to start with your smallest chain length and work down. The ideal length for your first chain is about 14 inches and something personal such as a name necklace, initial necklace or small charm necklace works best for this first piece as it creates a personal touch and draws the eye. From here you can add a few more chains of about 16- 18 inches to begin the layered look. 4. Add One Statement - every layered look needs one statement piece as this will bring the look together and create a themed design rather than just a collection of necklaces thrown together. Your statement piece should ideally be in the middle of your arrangement and be the most colourful of all your necklaces. You can then coordinate your other pieces to complement the base and accent colours. For example if your statement piece has a gunmetal base with bright turquoise stones, keep the rest of your chains silver, gunmetal and black to complement this. Our luxe necklaces make ideal statement pieces as they sit just below the neckline. 5. Add the Longer Layers - the final step is to add longer length chains to the mix to create proportion. If your smallest necklace is around 14 inches then I would advise having your longer layers reach no more than about 30 inches as otherwise the distances between the two will be too wide and look mismatched. Depending on your theme (see tip 1) the longer layers are your chance to get creative and add some attitude to your look. Mix in different lengths, textures and styles to complete. For example if you have used mostly rose gold chains then long length pearls can be a great addition to the final layers, if you have kept the look all monochrome why not add the tiniest flek of bright pink within one of the final chains? Long lockets can work really well here as can social tag necklaces or chain styles. And voila! You should now have the perfect layered look to suit your style. Remember that at Anna Lou of London most of our necklaces come with a choice of chain lengths meaning creating a layered look from the offset has never been so easy. We would love to see how you layer your chains so why not tweet or instagram us a pic using the hashtag #annalouoflondon!

Our LFW SS14 Highlights

Fashion Week was a whirlwind of events, shows, presentations, and parties and as well as showcasing our collections at the Handpicked Media suite, which you can read about in this blog post, some of our team were also on hand to capture all of the action at Somerset House and beyond. As a trend led jewellery brand, we love seeing the new season collections on the catwalks first hand and are always especially interested to see how the designers use jewellery within their shows. But as always the trends don't stop at the end of the runway and often the style on the streets is just as intriguing! In this post we thought we would round up some of our LFW highlights, from the street style to our favourite shows to the best celebrity FRows. Enjoy! The Shows... LFW SS14 Show Highlights From Cara Delevigne looking divine in pastels at Burberry to the pug stealing the show at Mulberry, this season the designers certainly gave us plenty to talk about. Some of our personal highlights included the Turkish influences at Bora Aksu, bodycon fringing at Mark Fast, and some serious statement necklaces at Ashish. The Presentations... LFW SS14 Presentation Highlights Often the most creative showcases, presentations can be a great way to see a collection up close and really get an idea of the designers inspiration. LFW SS14 Street Style We spotted some seriously stylish folks gracing the Somerset House cobbles and you can see all of the fashionistas we snapped on our Pinterest board but a few of our favourite spots are above, including actress Chiara Wilde and Made in Chelsea's Victoria.
