TREND UPDATE: Chunky Chains and Ball Bangles

The transitional period from Winter to Spring is an exciting time for many reasons, predominantly because with our entry into March comes the promise of brighter days and even British Summertime as the clocks change to adapt to all that daylight we're getting. However when it comes to fashion, the transition can be much trickier. Shedding that cosy Winter coat is a risky game, and don't even get us started on the tights/no tights dilemma. The good news is that at least your jewellery can be carried through the seasons, and a couple of carefully chosen pieces can be just the transitional season update you need. Anna Lou's been keeping her eyes peeled to scope out the latest jewellery trends as usual, and two particular styles have really jumped out: chunky chains and ball bangles.   CHUNKY CHAINS Daisy Lowe stormed the LFW catwalk like the pro she truly is, wearing Vivienne Westwood designs and bizarre red face paint (which apparently took ages to remove too!) - leaving us in awe once more. We couldn't help but notice the powerful chunky chain around her neck, a style that was seen throughout Anna Lou's LFW street style journey too. Start with your arm candy - this Anna Lou chain is a great base to stack up unique charms and really express your personality.

Chain bracelet - £35

BALL BANGLES

In a break from her usual grungy and raunchy style, Rihanna rocked up at Christian Dior's 2015 Cruise Show dressed in ladylike pink, paired with beautiful tumbling curls and classically chic jewellery - and was almost unrecognisable in the process! We couldn't help but lust over her choice of jewellery, stacking curved necklaces and bangles with delicate ball details to add streamlined chic to her look. Better yet, these bangles are identical to Anna Lou's newest drop - except ours feature engraved crowns for that Brit sparkle, obviously.

STREET STYLE: London Fashion Week

11013427_10153068356839144_8334429882715305002_n

If you follow us on Twitter, you'll know that the Anna Lou team took to the infamous cobbles of Somerset House yesterday in a mission to bring you our updates from the front line of the last day of London Fashion Week. This four-day feast of all things fashionable and fabulous has become as much about street style as it is shows, with groups of super chic bloggers and stylish Brits flocking towards the venue to debut amazing outfits for the awaiting press and camera crews. So with our cameras poised and eyes wide, Team Anna Lou set out to hunt down as much amazing jewellery as possible - in order to bring our readers the latest trends straight from the front line. Aren't you lucky? Without further ado...

The icy February chill meant everyone was wrapped up as snugly as possible in coats and scarves, which in turn made it harder than ever to scope out eye-catching jewellery - until we started ring hunting! Statement, stacked up rings adorned the fingers of every fashionista lining the cobbles; there was hardly a hand in sight without some sort of sparkle on it. Get the look by stacking up some personalised Anna Lou rings alongside classic designs for a special take on this trend.

Initial Heart Ring - £40

Much like rings, statement necklaces were the easiest way to add jewellery swag to cosy coats and jumpers. Layering chunky necklaces over turtle neck jumpers upgrades a whole outfit in ten seconds or less - just opt for colour and sparkle and remember: the bigger, the better!

Lady necklace - £25

For classic girls, fear not - as simple and stylish jewellery looks set to stick around. Strings of pearls and sparkling stones are completely timeless, and can give an outfit some understated glamour. Or nab your very own personalised piece to give a touch of personality to your look.

Initial Necklace - £67.50

Pearl Initial Bracelet - £18

And of course we were delighted to see patriotic fashion continuing its reign on the streets of London! Ooze Brit pride with punchy Union Jack accessories and royal colours. One look that will never go out of fashion!

Union Jack stud earrings - £20

And if all of that is still leaving you overwhelmed as far as fashion goes, make like this clever chap and cover it all up with something really statement - and comfy too. We'll see you next year, LFW!

Trend - High Shine

It's no surprise that come the Winter party season we all turn into magpies seeking out the shiniest, sparkliest items around and getting ready to dazzle at the Christmas party. But this season we can expect more than a few sequins as in the fashion world things are set to become a lot shinier. As seen at Giles, Mary Katrantzou, Ashish and Simone Rocha, the AW13 catwalks were full of high shine fabrics and illuminating clothing. Simone Rocha showed metallic colours and PVC wet look fabrics, Mary Katrantzou a more subtle iridescent sheen to her iconic prints,  Giles took shine to the next level with full metallic shimmering gowns and Ashish stuck to their trademark of bright sequins. Yup it's safe to say all things shiny are big news for the next few months. As a jewellery brand, obviously high shine has always been a priority for us but this season we too have upped the ante (and the shine factor) in our collections and pieces such as our chandelier statement necklace, P.S I Love you rings, statement crystal earrings and crystal avalanche hairpiece are an ode to the Winter bling effect which is upon us! What do you think of the high shine trend? Will you be rocking some serious Winter bling this season?

The SS14 Jewellery Trend you can Wear Now!

We are now more than half way through fashion month and from the catwalks to the streets there is one stand out SS14 jewellery trend we have been spotting non stop throughout: the Statement earring. From Cara's dove hoops at Topshop Unique to the bejewelled drop studs at Pamela Roland, large sparkling earrings were favoured above the necklace or the bracelet this season. The good news is that this is a trend you can easily get in on right now and stay one step ahead of the pack. Our new luxe collection is full of gorgeous earrings that are so fabulous, you won't need any other jewellery to add the wow factor to your outfit. Shop our earring collection here.

Our LFW SS14 Highlights

Fashion Week was a whirlwind of events, shows, presentations, and parties and as well as showcasing our collections at the Handpicked Media suite, which you can read about in this blog post, some of our team were also on hand to capture all of the action at Somerset House and beyond. As a trend led jewellery brand, we love seeing the new season collections on the catwalks first hand and are always especially interested to see how the designers use jewellery within their shows. But as always the trends don't stop at the end of the runway and often the style on the streets is just as intriguing! In this post we thought we would round up some of our LFW highlights, from the street style to our favourite shows to the best celebrity FRows. Enjoy! The Shows... LFW SS14 Show Highlights From Cara Delevigne looking divine in pastels at Burberry to the pug stealing the show at Mulberry, this season the designers certainly gave us plenty to talk about. Some of our personal highlights included the Turkish influences at Bora Aksu, bodycon fringing at Mark Fast, and some serious statement necklaces at Ashish. The Presentations... LFW SS14 Presentation Highlights Often the most creative showcases, presentations can be a great way to see a collection up close and really get an idea of the designers inspiration. We visited a safari like no other at Orla Kiely, the perfect girls night in at Marcus Lupfer and eery childhood memories at Edeline Lee. The Street Style... LFW SS14 Street Style We spotted some seriously stylish folks gracing the Somerset House cobbles and you can see all of the fashionistas we snapped on our Pinterest board but a few of our favourite spots are above, including actress Chiara Wilde and Made in Chelsea's Victoria. The Star studded Front Rows...

LFW SS14 Stars on the FRowPhotos from The Telegraph.co.uk

As well as the usual suspects - Alexa, Pixie, Daisy et al - top front row spots this season included the newly reformed original Sugababes at PPQ, Laura Whitmore at nearly every show and the surprise regular, Mr Harry Styles! And finally - the unexpected accessory of the season - The Umbrella...

LFW SS14 Accessories Photos from The Telegraph.co.uk

After such a long and hot Summer who would have thought that the one accessory everyone would be carrying this season would be the umbrella? But in true British style, the heavens opened on Day 1 and stayed open for day 2 and day 3 and, well, you get the picture. Thankfully the fashion world took it in their stride and the umbrella became the ultimate way of accessorising your outfit! Those were our highlights but what were yours? Follow us on Twitter and let us know! We will be back with more LFW coverage later in the week.  Unless otherwise stated, all photographs by Jaclyn Craig

Anna Lou of London at LFW SS14

This weekend Team ALOL braved the rain and gale force winds, packed up our best collections and wore the most fashionable outfits we could find to hit London Fashion Week SS14! This season we were proud to be a part of the blogger network, Handpicked Media's now legendary LFW events and join them in the stylish suite of One Aldwych to showcase our newest range to the long line of fashion and beauty bloggers who dropped by over the two day event. We set up early on Friday morning as LFW SS14 kicked off alongside the like of Freya Underwear, Superdry, Osiris Eyewear and Bourjois make up in anticipation of the first show-goers that day. The Handpicked Media suite offers bloggers a relaxed and inviting space to chill out in between shows, do a spot of blogging if need be and meet designers and brands first hand. We were showcasing our unique personalisation service and offering bloggers the chance to choose and design their own unique piece of custom made jewellery. We had everything from social tag necklaces to initial charm bracelets to engraved lockets being designed on the day and it was a pleasure to meet so many fans of the brand on the day. We also showcased our new Luxe collection for one of the first times and were so pleased with the terrific reaction we got to it, it seems you all love a bit of bling! [gallery columns="4" ids="1706,1707,1708,1709,1711,1714,1715,1716,1717,1718,1719,1720,1721,1722,1723,1724" orderby="rand"] Thanks to all who came to the event to support us and we look forward to seeing you all in your new jewellery! Don't forget that you can share your pics with us using the hashtag #howtowearannalou. As well as the pics from our event we also recorded some video footage over the two days and had a representative on the cobbles of Somerset House capturing street style so stay tuned for more LFW coverage on the blog very soon.

Guest Post: Tartan on Trend by Paula Holmes

This week we welcome our first Guest Blogger, Paula Holmes of the fashion blog, the P-Ho Diaries as she discusses one of her favourite trends this season, tartan. As we head into the second week of September, the weather is getting colder and sweaters and boots are top of my shopping list, it really is starting to feel like Autumn has well and truly begun. One of the major trends for Autumn/Winter fashion this year is Tartan which was seen across all the catwalks from designers such as Moschino, Versace, Celine and John Paul-Gaultier. Models wore checked coats, dresses, skirts, scarves, hats, you name it, it was everywhere. The first thing that comes to mind when I think of tartan is a kilt, which you guessed it is a must-have item for this season, but please don’t let that put you off. Pieces also have a punk edge by adding embellishment such as spikes, studs and zips. The Met Ball which took place in May earlier this year in New York, saw celebrities decked out in their finest punk attire. Christina Ricci ditched her goth black attire for a Vivienne Westwood tartan dress and Madonna was seen mixing the two trends together in a tartan jacket with studs and spikes teamed with just a pair of fishnets. However there is an easier way to wear tartan and punk, without going all Madonna and makes it much more accessible to wear. They are some great coats and jackets with tartan checks in stores right now and it really works well as a statement piece. I have chosen a tartan bomber jacket as one of mine and teamed it with some navy blue skinny jeans and a simple black t-shirt. If you are going to go for a statement tartan piece don’t feel like you have to keep the rest of the look simple, as seen on the catwalks the more tartan the better. However I think for this jacket it works well on its own. PhoDiariesTartan The best way to accessorise a bold statement tartan piece would be with some punk style jewellery. Try something like a studded wrap bracelet or metal skull bangle for that extra punk feel. If you are not feeling as bold to wear a statement jacket, then opt for little hints of tartan in scarves, tights or headbands. Whichever you choose you are totally on trend! Will you be joining the tartan army this season? This is a guest post written by Paula Holmes
