Still reeling from last weekend's BAFTAs and its showcase of talent, glitter and glamour? Don't worry, us too. But despite how fantastic and worthy the prize winners are, year on year we can't help but swoon even more over the array of beautiful dresses parading down that red carpet. Just us? When it comes to formal wear, accessories can often take a bit of a back seat, but this year we were delighted to notice some sterling efforts amongst the BAFTAs jewellery wearers - showing us all how to add that glamorous finishing touch to our formal wear.      This ensemble may have earned Reese Witherspoon some cruel comparisons to a bottle of grape juice (personally, we think she looks fab), but her jewellery was completely faultless. A simple sparkly cuff meant Reese's shape-enhancing purple punch did all the talking for her, but injected some interest into an otherwise streamlined look. Get a similar look by adding Anna Lou's monogram disc bracelet to your formal look. Simple enough to match every dress, yet special enough to add some interest, this stunning chain bracelet can be engraved with your own monogrammed initials for a party piece everyone will be talking about. (£54)   Alice Eve's dramatic black gown is perfectly framed by scraped back hair, a pop of red lipstick and silver jewellery. Like Reese, Alice's silver cuff adds some extra attention to her colour block outfit. However, real fash points go to her silver drop earrings - the ideal accessory to keep some interest at the top half of a simple gown and draw focus to her beautiful face, of course. Wear the XO earrings with a simple black gown and add life to your look in less than 5 seconds. (£80)   Another member of the cuff club, Dianna Agron, shows us how it's done with chunky gold accessories and a sassy quiff. Adding gold is a sure fire way to luxe up your formal look, and works well here by adding edge to a romantically draped gown. Work the look without spending an arm and a leg, by adding a stack of Forget Me Knot bangles and your sassiest pout. (£35 each)   By Charlea Glanville

Love it or hate it, Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and in Anna Lou’s world that only means one thing: presents. Whether it’s Valentine's Day gifts for a girlfriend, best friend, mother, or just a little something for yourself (after all, you deserve it…) – the infamous day is a reminder that it’s time to show someone close to your heart how much they really mean to you. FOR GIRLFRIENDS… Firstly, you’re probably feeling really smug because you and your special lady get to indulge in traditional Valentines activities, ranging from the cringey giant teddy bear and bunch of roses, right through to a fancy dinner reservation and bottle of champagne. However, if another box of Thornton’s just isn’t going to cut it this year, don’t panic – Anna Lou is on hand to help you say it right with a piece of unique British jewellery that will be cherished for years to come.

Love necklace - £54

FOR BEST FRIENDS… In the mid 90’s, five wise ladies descended upon the nation and decided it was time for us girls to stand up and be noticed. With their “Girl Power” campaign and daring outfits, the classically British Spice Girls have sent a message that’s lasted through the years: us girls have got to stick together. So with this in mind, what better way to empower your BFFL than with some fresh new jewels? Pieces adorned with hearts and lips give a subtle acknowledgement of V-Day, and will take you right through from daytime to dancefloor come February 14th.

Acrylic Lips necklace - £15

FOR MOTHERS… Let’s face it, you owe her one. She’s fed you, clothed you, changed hundreds of your nappies, and helped you to become the (almost) grown-up you are today, and it’s about time you gave something back. A personalised piece will make Mum feel truly special, and gain you those all-important brownie points in the process – so what are you waiting for?

Initial sideways necklace - £67.50

FOR YOU… You are fabulous, and there’s absolutely no shame in spoiling yourself every once in a while (trust Anna Lou!). So if the thought of Cupids and rose petals is getting you a little down, give yourself a much-deserved pick-me-up. Whether it’s a box of your favourite chocolates, a massage or some new arm candy, V-Day is the perfect excuse to give yourself a little boost. A delicate heart themed piece is an understated way to mark the day.

Ask Anna - Jewellery Styling Tips #3

Our Saturday style sessions continue with more 'Ask Anna' jewellery styling tips today. We really hope you've enjoyed reading these posts as much as we've enjoyed doing them, it's so great to hear from our customers and Anna really loves playing style advisor every Saturday morning so please keep those questions coming! If you've missed our last few posts then allow us to fill you in; throughout November, every Saturday Anna has been offering up her best tips and tricks on how to wear your jewellery, what to style it with and how to avoid those jewellery faux pas, by answering some of the questions as sent in by you, our customers. We have one more Saturday style session to come next week so if there is anything you need to know from an established jewellery designer then now is the time to ask it! Drop Anna an email or Tweet us (all details at the bottom of the post) and we will be your fairy godmothers this Christmas! Back to today though and Anna is here to talk about how to achieve that coveted 'arm candy' look. Q) What are your top tips for wearing the #ArmCandy trend? ANNA) This season is the perfect time to experiment with wearing several bracelets at a time. The coveted #armcandy tag has become bigger than ever and piling up your wrist jewels has never been so popular, but getting the look right can be tricky. The trend really began in the blogosphere with the likes of Leandra Medine from Man Repeller so to get some great inspiration we always recommend stalking the instagram accounts of your fave fashion bloggers, but of course ours is pretty great too so give us a follow here and we promise we will have lots of #armcandy inspo for you. But back to the styling. It's really important to still be aware of patterns and sizes etc. Ask yourself questions like "Do these colours really go with each other?" and "Is this all so heavy that it might become annoying?!". There is much more to the #armcandy trend than just throwing all of your fave bracelets together in one. In the same way that you need to make sure your accessories fit with your outfit, your jewellery needs to work together too. As I suggested with my tips on layering jewellery, which you can read about here, it's best to establish your theme first. Once you have a 'look' you want to go for, finding the right colours and styles will be easier. With #armcandy it's ok to mix your metallics so don't be afraid to put silver and gold together but just make sure they are broken up with flashes of other colours and varying sizes. I always think that a few non metal pieces can be great to break the look up such as rope friendship bracelets or neon acrylics. Oh and lastly, quality counts. Always wear quality bracelets as overly cheap and tacky ones will look gimicky. Still unsure? Don't worry as on my site we've done the hard work for you - check out my ready made Arm Candy Sets here. Or if you prefer to create your own style, you can Mix and Match here. Don't forget to show us your style too, tag your instagram #armcandy with #annalouoflondon and if we love it we may even feature you on our site!   Thanks to Anna for another great style session. We're back next week with our final 'Ask Anna' installment so make sure you tune in but in the meantime you can email [email protected] with any Q's or tweet @annalouoflondon with #askanna.

Trend: March into Winter with Modern Military

If you cite Cara Delevigne and Pixie Geldof as your style icons then this one may be for you - the modern military look is marching into focus this Winter and with a much more grungy approach than previously seen last year. Oversized coats, chunky boots and lots of camouflage prints are set for abundance but what can we expect from the trend in jewellery terms? Well we are glad you asked as here at Anna Lou of London this is actually one of our favourite AW trends jewellery wise. Think hardwearing leather, khaki green colours and layered necklaces and you are on the right track. Add some dog tag necklaces and identity bracelets and you've got it nailed! We have been stocking our tag necklaces (we prefer the social tag to the dog tag, more fashion daahling!) since around April this year and since then they have been going from strength to strength! (Not that we're boasting or anything but we do love it when we are ahead of a trend) The great thing about ours is that you can personalise them any way you wish; keep it authentic and engrave initials or a number (mysterious), add your name or an inspirational word, or get social with your twitter handle or fave hashtag! It's the ultimate way to take the military trend to a new modern place! If tags aren't your thing then why not pile up some arm candy in military shades of khaki and blue? Or engrave an identity bracelet with your name? or try a leather monogram cuff? Whatever way you march into Winter, make sure and do it in style! Shop the military trend on Anna Lou of London here.

Three Ways to Wear... A Silk Scarf

This time of year can often be a trial when it comes to getting dressed in the morning. We've made peace with that fact that Summer is at an end and have stored our open toed sandals and floppy hats away for another year. Now we are ready to don those Winter coats and start layering like all of the magazines keep telling us. But the weather isn't quite with us yet. Autumn in Britain basically means anything goes - sun, rain, even snow - who knows what to expect on an average day. You may be too hot in a wooly jumper one minute and too cold for that lightweight jacket the next. One item which will never go wrong, whatever the season, is the silk scarf. As a trendy way to protect your hair against sun damage in the Summer, it then adds a touch of colour to your wardrobe come Winter. With a great selection of 100% silk scarves available at Anna Lou of London, we thought we would give you out top three ways to wear the silk scarf this Winter, and none of them include having it around your neck. 1. Accessorise your hair - the silk scarf can easily double up as a great hair accessory to brighten up an otherwise dark Winter look. roll it up and drape around the front of your hair to create a hairband or why not twist it into your ponytail and create a chic scarf bun like the lovely Julia from Stylonylon shows us. 2. Accessorise your bag - one of the fash packs favourites, tying a chic silk scarf around the handle of your favourite handbag is another easy way to add a fun colour or print to your outfit and take your scarf with you at all times. That way if it does get a bit chilly out you have an extra layer waiting for you! 3. Accessorise your wrists - ok so maybe its because we are so often tied up in jewellery that this one appealed but we can't help but love the idea of wearing a silk scarf around your wrist to complement the rest of your arm candy. Its so easy to do and can make a big style statement so why not give it a go? What is your favourite way to wear a silk scarf? We would love to hear your tips so let us know over on Twitter!

Our Fashion Week Outfit Inspiration

Fashion weeks are upon us once again and with New York in full swing and London less than a few days away our attentions are turning to the dreaded 'What to wear' dilemma. As always in the fashion calendar, it can be easy to get yourself in a bit of a pickle with outfits around this time. We have only just had what appears to be our first proper day of Autumn after a gloriously long Summer but just as we reach for our coats and get ready to don our black opaques again, its time to start getting inspired by Spring Summer 2014! Confusing huh? But when it comes to fashion week there are a few key jewellery essentials that no outfit would be complete without. As they say, 'accessories are the key', so with that in mind we have compiled a little of whats inspiring us ahead of Friday from the NYFW streets and the pieces which will see you through five days of serious style. LFW statement necklaces 1. The Look at Me statement necklaces Throw a statement jewel encrusted necklace onto even the plainest of outfits and your instantly fashion week ready. We are getting inspired by these street stylistas and their amazing neck candy and will definitely be incorporating some of their pizzazz into our LFW outfits. Our new Luxe collection has just landed and its full of statement worthy bejewelled pieces which we will be working come Friday. LFW bling rings 2. The Bling Rings When it comes to fashion week we are never far from our phones, tablets and notepads, ready to record all of the action as it happens and keep our fans up to date on Twitter. Therefore there can be no hiding our hands in gloves or pockets and a bit of bling never goes amiss as these fashionable souls show! LFW arm candy 3. The Arm Candy Its an oldie but a goody. At Anna Lou of London we love stacking our bracelets up as high as they go and showing off some serious arm candy. There is never a better time to do so than at fashion week, so no matter what the outfit, we will be accessorising with at least one set of iconic bracelets. Don't forget that you can create your own arm candy sets at reduced prices from our mix and match section. This season Anna Lou of London will be taking part in the wonderful Handpicked Media's exclusive London Fashion Week style lounge and hosting an event space at One Aldwych where bloggers can pick up pieces to accessorize their fashion week outfits and get a first look at some of our new pieces. We will also have an Anna Lou representative at the shows and pounding the cobbled streets in search of some serious street style so keep an eye out for your pic appearing on this blog in the coming weeks. While all of this does mean this week is even more frantic than usual, we are also really excited to be part of the buzz that surrounds fashion week and play a part in styling the show-goers. Do keep up to date with us over fashion week by following us on Twitter and we look forward to seeing you all there!

How to Wear Anna Lou - The Bloggers!

Our How to wear Anna Lou campaign is in full swing and already we are loving seeing your style and discovering lots of new style tips on how to accessorise our pieces courtesy of our fans. We will be announcing this month’s winner at the end of August but for now we thought we would do a little mid month round up of some of our favourite bloggers and let their instagram pics do the talking as they show us how they wear their Anna Lou pieces, from arm candy to lockets to knuckleduster rings. And don’t forget you can join in too, simply post a picture of you wearing your favourite Anna Lou piece to either instagram or twitter and mention both @annalouoflondon and #howtowearannalou and you could win £50 to spend online at the end of this month! [gallery type="default" ids="1492,1493,1487,1488,1494,1489"] First up is the lovely Lucie from the fashion and lifestyle blog Lucie Loves, who teams her heart engraved locket with a baggy Zara dress and boots for effortless London style. Adele from Into the Blonde simply loves a bit of arm candy layering as her instagram account shows! We love how she teams two completely contrasting Anna Lou bracelets together to create a unique look. Another Lucy, this time from the wonderfully colourful and uplifting blog Shiny Thoughts, loves nothing more than a bright coloured accessory with some statement studs. She wears hers with a collection of statement rings for a true eclectic look. Ngoni from I am NRC has her own blog name knuckle duster ring and we think she wears it perfectly with a white statement clutch. Fashion Presenter and Writer Rhiannon Duffin from the blog Life N Style loves to accessorise her name necklace with her favourite colour of mint for a summer look that’s pastel perfection. And finally Ashley from Pink Julep Abroad shows us that an ID bracelet needn't be worn on its own, it can be stacked up with other pieces for arm candy with a personal touch. Keep up to date with our #HowtoWearAnnaLou campaign by checking out our photo album on Facebook and stay tuned as we will be bringing you another blog post full of your photos at the end of the month!
